Direct Evolution

Not a week goes by without a new product hitting the market.

It makes one wonder how sustainable this constant stream of reinvention and evolution is and what affect it is having on businesses and their clients.

What end point is there? Will there always be a better mouse trap?

This burningpants correspondent took the wife and kids to Ocean World at Manly on the weekend and whilst there learnt from the attendant at the touching pool that the Port Jackson shark truly does have a great mouse trap.

The attendant outlined how the mother shark gives birth mid-ocean and follows the descending egg down to the ocean floor. Having done so, she grasps the egg in her mouth and proceeds to rotate her body longitudinally until the spiral shaped egg is safely and deeply drilled into the sand or a rock crevasse.

A year or so later, a baby shark is born and its path in life begins. It makes one compare the wonder of evolution with what we create in our own short lives.

The financial services industry is undergoing an evolution of its own and is increasingly under pressure to deliver products and services that will result in more effective commercial outcomes, whilst also meeting the needs of ever more discerning clients.

The impact of change on the investment food chain is at the core of the industry’s evolution.

This is the focus of consumer research being undertaken by burningpants affiliate CoreData.

Through the research, we are keen to understand how consumers’ propensity to invest directly is shifting the goal posts for both financial advice professionals and product manufacturers.

The ability to adapt to this shift in mindset will drive the next phase of growth and will help businesses survive into the future.

Extinction awaits for those not expecting it.  And as the Port Jackson shark knows, being prepared for the future and any potential threats that could arise is what survival is all about.
