Trust Me I'm a Doctor… Planner… Accountant

Trust is something many of us take for granted as everyday we entrust people with our lives without a moment’s thought.

By simply travelling on a train, taking a flight, eating at a restaurant and taking medication we have delegated responsibility for our safety into the hands of others.

OK, so we’re innately programmed to pass trust in these instances otherwise we would be paralysed with fear and unable to participate in even the most basic of life events and interactions.

Nonetheless with the notion of passing trust in mind, CoreData set out to uncover how easy/difficult it is for individuals to build trust with a variety of different professions.

By taking a sample of randomly selected individuals (1,048 people) we were able to compare the ease with which people pass trust to different parties.

How easy is it to build trusting relationships with the following professions

Dentists, it seems, are the group individuals find it easiest to pass trust to with almost half of those sampled deeming it very easy (7.31%) or easy (40.41%) to build a trusting relationship with a dentist.

Perhaps some cross-sell opportunities for financial services companies there?

Journalists, on the other hand, are the group people tend to trust the least with 55.76% of people stating it would be difficult to build a trusting relationship with this group.

In terms of finance related trust, people found it easiest to pass trust to their accountant with 42.66% of people finding it very easy or easy to build trust with their local bean counter.

Meanwhile financial planners and stock brokers didn’t fare so well, despite the fact the former is very much relationship-based interacting while the latter is more transactional.

Two in five people had difficulty in passing trust to a financial planner (40.91%) with only one in five (22.21%) stating it was something they did with relative ease.

For stock brokers one in three people (36.74%) would be reluctant to pass to trust with one in five (20.54%) being able to do so without loosing too much sleep in the process.
